Curriculum & OSSD Pathway
Curriculum
A Canadian curriculum
In Canada, each province sets its own school curriculum. CIS Somalia's approach is based on the curriculum of Ontario, which sets out clear learning expectations for every subject and grade.
In Ontario, student achievement is assessed in four areas: knowledge and understanding, thinking, communication, and application.
Secondary
The OSSD pathway
OSSD stands for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma, the secondary school diploma of the Canadian province of Ontario. CIS Somalia has launched a local OSSD pathway.
To learn more about the pathway — including which students can join, how it is delivered and its requirements — please speak with the admissions office.
OSSD pathway
What to ask about the OSSD pathway
Discuss the OSSD pathway's delivery, course provider, awarding institution and entry requirements with admissions. These questions can help you plan:
- Which organisation provides the OSSD courses?
- Which institution awards the diploma?
- Which students and grades are eligible to join?
- What are the graduation requirements?
- How are the courses delivered — in class, online, or both?
Universities, scholarship providers and immigration authorities each set their own requirements. A diploma pathway does not guarantee university admission, scholarships, visas or transfer to a school overseas.
Assessment
How progress is reported
In Ontario schools, report cards show achievement in each subject alongside six learning skills and work habits: responsibility, organisation, independent work, collaboration, initiative and self-regulation.
Ask the admissions office how CIS Somalia reports student progress to families.
